Laura Brooke Toplass is an established casting director and award winning producer. As the former head of casting for Insight Film Studio, Laura developed and managed the casting department for the largest independent production company in Canada. During her tenure Laura was responsible for over one hundred projects including the Academy Award winning film The Hurt Locker. In addition to her multiple film credits she is known for casting scripted and unscripted television programming. Laura is respected for her critical and creative thinking, her problem solving ability and valuable recruiting skills.

 

In the fall of 2009 Laura joined the producing team for Shaw Communication’s longest-running talk show Urban Rush. During her time at Shaw, Laura was a part of the field production team covering the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games, created/ executive produced the competition reality series Cooking With Fire and was involved in the development of the national evening talk show The Rush. In recent years Laura has joined the development teams at Force Four Entertainment, Lark Productions and Tricon Film & Televison to head up casting and development for several reality and factual TV series. She is the series casting director and field director for W Network's Game of Homes, the 2014 Bell Media Fellowship recipient for the Banff World Media Festival and Creative BC's recipient for 2015 passport to markets at The Realscreen Summit in Washington DC. She is currently living in Australia and working as a freelance Senior Field Producer and Casting Producer. Laura is a member of the Casting Society of America, The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and an executive member of Women In Film.
